nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper showing how to wear a graphic tee to work
While this (previously scheduled) post is being published, I'll be flying to Paris, France! Since I've never been out of the country before - I know, gasp - I'm EXTRA excited about this trip! To prepare, I started getting into the French spirit long before I even packed my suitcase. I started by purchasing and styling this fabulous tee.

I took French for five years throughout middle school and high school. And while I didn't retain much, I do know that this graphic tee says "It's cool." I picked it up at Banana Republic over Memorial Day weekend and - score - it was on sale! I love simple black & white graphic slogan tees as they create an effortless look when paired with a skirt. They look just as great with a polished pair of jeans.

This lacy white pencil skirt is so feminine and romantic, which I love! But while dressing it up ALL the way can be fun, it's way more my speed to style it casually - like with this tee. That's the beauty of a versatile piece; you may think you can only wear a dressy skirt like this with a fancy top, but your options are beyond limitless in reality. Heck, this would even look cool paired with a trendy sweatshirt!

Let me just say right now that I do not wear these heeled mules enough. I fell in love with them when I first spotted them two years ago, and I STILL am obsessed. They seem to make me stand way taller than any other heel I own. I also love the unexpected dash of python print on the first strap and heel - that detail makes them edgy and memorable. And with an all-white look like this, a pop of something different is definitely appreciated!

The great thing about this clutch is that it can also be a crossbody bag. A purse with removable straps gets an +A in my book! While I considered using my bag as an opportunity to incorporate some color into my ensemble, I loved the idea of strictly all-white/beige look. There's just something so clean and fresh about monochrome - especially in such an ethereal hue. It's also pretty dramatic, don't you think?

The clear stones on this gold Kate Spade necklace make it extra special. It's dainty and feminine and adds a world of polish to my simple tee.

I love statement dangle earrings, but I'm super sensitive to their weight. I adore this pair because it's eye-catching yet super light.

Since my clothing is on the subtle side color wise, I wanted my makeup to stand out. I chose to match my lips to my eyeshadow, and I think the result is impactful and girly. I used a matte gloss and Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette.

It's Electric // mom jeans + off-the-shoulder bodysuit

Wednesday, May 24, 2017

Kathleen Harper of Kat's Fashion Fix wearing mom jeans in black with off-the-shoulder bodysuit
Alright, so my outfit may not be electric, but this background sure is! And rocking this familiar combo of high-waisted mom jeans and a bodysuit, I sure FELT electric storming the streets of Brooklyn, New York. Sometimes the right outfit is all you need to feel energized and confident!

Considering my last post was all about mom jeans, I'll spare you the romance novel about why I love these pants so much. But seriously, if you don't already own a pair, I highly suggest the investment. They're basically sweatpants in denim form that are just as chic as they are comfortable. Paired with a bodysuit or crop top, they're all you need to complete a trendy off-duty look.

Last week I showed you a super casual bodysuit. A Tank top featuring the Calvin Klein logo, that option was sporty and fun. THIS bodysuit is perfect for date night. The off-the-shoulder silhouette is flirty and feminine, and I love the sexy sweetheart neckline. While I normally wear this with a skirt, I styled it with baggy jeans this time around for a contrasting uptown-downtown vibe. And guess what? It's STILL perfect for date night!

These heels aren't your average black platforms. While adding a touch of color - and interest - to my outfit, these embroidered shoes are just stunning. And better yet, the block heel and platform sole make them tolerable for walking around in. While I didn't cross the Brooklyn bridge in these, I did put them to the test around town.

The very definition of electric, this metallic clutch is vibrant and oh-so fun. To give my outfit that summery vibe, I knew I had to throw it in the mix. Plus, it looks great with my lipstick ;)

No spring/summer outfit is complete without a fierce pair of shades. I chose this mirrored pair for obvious reasons - it totally compliments my shiny silver bag!

These bright purple earrings are youthful and spirited. They were the perfect choice considering my other accessories are colorful and attention-grabbing too.

As I mentioned before, this look gives me major confidence. Isn't it great how an outfit can do that? Such a sexy top paired with super casual denim finds that perfect balance of feminine meets tomboy, which is a vibe I've been loving lately. And I mean, have I mentioned how much I love these jeans?

Bright pink lips call for neutral eyeshadow and a toned down complexion. Therefore, I kept my beauty look relatively simple here. With my signature long lashes, I just dusted neutral shadow on my lids and applied a solid layer of hot pink lip color. SO electric, right?

Out Of The Blue // mom jeans + logo bodysuit

Thursday, May 18, 2017

NYC fashion blogger Kathleen Harper's spring street style
Did anyone else read the title of this post and think of that Aly & AJ song? Because it's literally playing in my head right now! I thought it was an appropriate name for this look because duh, I'm standing in front of a blue building, and "out of the blue" it started raining during this shoot. The rain meant I had to break out my trusty navy BLUE rain jacket! Pretty perfect, huh?

Mom jeans are the word this season, and I am shamelessly LOVING the trend! My favorite variety is the high-waisted style because they can easily be worn with crop tops and bodysuits, which are also super hot right now. This pair has been my go-to denim this spring, and I love how comfy they feel and how effortless they look. Cuff your favorite pair for a more modern vibe.

I know, you caught me - I can't get enough of bodysuits! I feel like I wear one a week, but that's because they're so EASY! This Calvin Klein logo one-piece is sporty yet chic and it looks just as great with a skirt as it does with jeans. Celebrities from Kendall Jenner to Ciara have been rocking the iconic "CK" emblem lately, and so I'm not going to lie, I feel pretty on-trend in this fun piece!

It had been a while since I owned a raincoat. But when I saw this piece in Zara back in March, I couldn't get it off my mind. I love how sleek it is, and how you can totally wear it as a regular jacket even when it's not raining. It also looks more expensive than it is, which is the kind of quality I always look for in my clothing. It also fits great and has deep pockets as an added bonus!

For no particular reason, I'm not usually one for belts. But without one, this look would have seemed incomplete. So to give it some pizazz, I threw on my favorite belt, which also happens to be leopard! In today's fashion universe, leopard is a neutral, and it looks so effortlessly cool here paired with denim, a casual tank, and sneakers.

I had been searching for the perfect red crossbody, and then my mom and I came across this beauty by Michael Kors. Even better, it was on sale! I personally think having a red purse in your collection is an excellent idea. Red is such a statement color and when used as an accent, it makes a huge impact with minimal effort. Plus, it looks stylish paired with almost any color. For MY red bag, I wanted something unique and special. I chose this one because I'm obsessed with this rose petal effect.

I originally thought wearing a black beaded choker might be too much. I debated not wearing a necklace at all. But in the end, I decided to go for it because it's so ME. I've always been that girl who unapologetically piles on the jewelry, and I thought, hey - why stop now? I also can't get enough of this choker!

Well I've been digging matte lip colors lately, here I went for a shiny lipgloss, and I like how it plays off the slickness of my raincoat. Gloss feels youthful and playful, which is how I felt during this shoot - raindrops and all!

And there's that umbrella! Don't forget umbrellas can serve as a chic accessory too ;)

This past weekend it was chilly and pretty much rained 24/7 -- including during this shoot! While this week it's been sweltering hot as temps have reached the high 80's! So crazy, right? But my boyfriend and I were total pros and were able to quickly snap these pics in between bursts of precipitation. Luckily I had my umbrella too!

This outfit also turned out to be the perfect way to combat the fickle weather. I've learned that carrying a raincoat with you everywhere you go in the spring is a solid idea! Because after all, you never know when raindrops will appear "out of the blue!"
