Where Brooklyn At? :: pulling off daytime metallics

Friday, June 27, 2014

Sporting a metallic, typically nighttime dress in broad daylight, I hiked across the Brooklyn Bridge in style. Proving that shiny & sparkly can work just as easily during the day as it does once the sun goes down.
The key to making metallics work during the day is layering them with daytime accessories such as this denim vest. You can't get much more afternoon appropriate than light wash denim, and in this case, it balances out the extreme shine of the dress creating a casual yet alluring vibe.
White is a great color for day because it brightens up your entire look. Incorporate it into your outfit as much as possible. Try and stay away from black if you're trying to conceal the fact that you're wearing evening attire.
Wearing nightwear during the day can get tricky, so make sure to use footwear to your advantage. Sneakers ground a flashy look while adding a dimension of casualness to an otherwise nightclub-esque ensemble.
Lucite jewelry is a fabulous choice for day or night and therefore easily transitions into any type of look. I especially love this piece for day though because of its fresh, white accents.
Throw some bright colors into the mix via bracelets and nail color.
Wearing mettalics during the day is definitely achievable and even quite fashion forward if you make the rest of your ensemble casual and daytime oriented. All you have to do is swap your vest for a leather jacket and your sneakers for some strappy black stilettos once dusk rolls around and you'll be well on your way to enjoying some chic cocktails.

Living in New York City this summer has been incredibly energizing and magical. So far I've experienced living in LA as well as NYC and I'm so thankful for the opportunities and the internships I've had in both iconic cities. Although LA is incredible, I'm definitely moving back to The Big Apple after graduation in May.

This summer I'm interning at the Daily Front Row, which is the official magazine of New York Fashion Week. I've gotten to do some pretty amazing things such as interviewing stars on the red carpet, attending exclusive nightclub parties, interviewing designers, speaking with editors, and listening to Michael Kors speak at Hearst Tower. I've had multiple pieces published online at Fashionweekdaily.com, and I'm making some amazing connections.

My weekends are filled with exploration, dining out, and getting lost in Central Park. This past Saturday my friends and I decided to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and investigate some Brooklyn hotspots on the other side.

Stay tuned to hear about more of my NYC adventures!

Middle Of The Road

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

Take your casual, weekend wear to the next level by exchanging your middle-of- the-road accessories for something a bit more out of the box.
Yellow shorts are great because they have the same effect as white shorts (they make your legs appear extra tan) without the side effect of having a panic attack whenever something stain-inducing is in sight.
Center a neutral outfit around a pop of bright color for an unexpected punch. In this look, I chose yellow against white, nude, and black. I incorporated yellow into my outfit through my arm candy and shorts.
Add sophisticated jewelry to polish off an otherwise simple look. This is the key element that will really take your outfit from plain to chic.
Nude heels are always my favorite, especially in summer. And this pair of Vince Camutos is surprisingly comfortable. The kitten heel is perfect for (almost) all day wear.
If you want to wear shorts and look stylish and presentable, keep it classy with length. A great weekend short hits your fingers when you drop your arms. This length is flattering while keeping you concealed and cool.
Yellow and white is a super fresh combination for summer. It's bright and cheerful and will make you stand out against all the greenery.
Paint on a bright lip stain for an extra splash of color. Pink shades are hot right now. Bonus if it matches your nail polish!

While "middle of the road" casual wear is fine, sometimes I crave a bit more of a polished casual look. When that mood strikes, I always feel the need to whip out a pair of nude heels and throw on some of my sparkliest accessories.

This is the perfect look for lunching with family or taking a stroll in the city with friends. After all, you never know who you may run into. Although comfort is essential, sometimes I just need heels to give you that extra boost!

What's On Top

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Sometimes all an outfit needs is a little attention up top. By adding an eye-grabbing statement necklace or a chic vest, your outfit's dynamic instantly changes. Instead of wearing separates, you've created a cohesive look
In this ensemble I decided to accessorize with a necklace and a vest. I chose a denim vest for a laid-back summer feel and a turquoise necklace for a bold, fresh look.
This two-toned ring is one of my favorites. I wear it every day and it goes with everything.
I wish I could do this to my hair myself but unfortunately I can only get this look from my hair stylist. What I would do for my own daily personal hair dresser, am I right ladies?
I am so drawn to the color turquoise (it reminds me of the ocean) and I think it's perfect for summertime. Wearing it as a statement necklace against a neutral background creates an effortlessly dramatic effect.
These nude peep-toes have become an instant favorite of mine. They're Clark's, which means they're insanely comfortable, yet the style factor is all there. I love peep-toes for summer because you get to show off your pedi!
A stack of silver bracelets polishes off any ensemble.
I can't believe I used to shy away from long skirts just because I'm petite. I've discovered that one of the keys to appearing taller is wearing nude heels. Plus, I love the fit and feel of this Gap piece - I'll definitely be getting a lot of use out of it this summer and beyond.

I've wanted this denim vest for quite a while (since last summer to be exact), and I'm so happy to finally have it in my possession. I'm already dreaming up many more looks featuring this little beauty.

Denim has been on a steady rise for multiple seasons in a row now and it's easy to see why. Denim is classic and versatile. And in vest form, it adds an urban chic appeal to any look.
