Heart-To-Heart // Valentine's Day

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper's Valentine's Day outfit with a sweater
For V-Day, it doesn't get much more festive than this! A heart-embellished sweater is not only fun, it can also be super chic when paired with leather accessories and complimentary lipstick!

This type of Valentine's Day look is great for you ladies who want to keep the 14th casual, cool, and laidback. Moto boots give the ensemble an edgy vibe, while leather leggings are a stylish alternative to your yoga pants.

I threw a pale pink purse into the mix for an additional dose of Valentine flavor. My heart-shaped necklace and sparkly earrings also help make this outfit extra special.

This past weekend was so warm (I'm talking lower 50s here, people), and it seriously felt incredible outside -- no coats required! But now that February is rolling around, more snow and wind is in the forecast. Is it crazy I'm already completely ready for spring?

Alright ladies, it's time to start thinking about those Valentine's Day ensembles! Whether you have a romantic night planned or not, having an outfit at the ready is a must!

No Valentine this year? You can still have fun dressing up and heading out for Galentine's Day with your BFFs! A ladylike look like this is perfect for girls' brunch, late-night cocktails, OR a dinner date.

Keep an elegant skirt grounded with a cozy sweater and bold jewelry. The beauty of this combo? Heels, boots, or even sneakers are totally acceptable shoe options. And of course I couldn't resist adding a dash of red in honor of V-Day!

Since Valentine's Day is yet again on a weekday, my sweetheart and I don't have major plans on the actual day. We will however, SHAMELESSLY be seeing Fifty Shades Freed in theaters that night -- per tradition. Then I'll most likely be giving this skirt a spin on the weekend!

Wild At Heart // leopard vest + thigh-high boots

Wednesday, January 17, 2018

I know what you're thinking. A skirt -- in January? I may be walking a little on the wild side, but stepping out sans tights in below freezing temps is actually totally doable (see my tips below)! Oh and speaking of "wild," this leopard vest has completely stolen my heart!
So you've decided to wear a skirt in the winter. First of all, I applaud your fashionable spirit (I mean, pants for three months straight gets SO boring). Second, if you're going to do it, you should do it right. Start by adding boots -- the taller the better. It's even ok if your boots and your skirt overlap, resulting in zero skin exposure (that's actually super in right now).
Now that you've got your legs mostly covered, pile on the layers up top. Here, I started with a sleeveless chambray button-down. Layering with a sleeveless top is my secret weapon because it lessens bulk in your arms! Next I threw on a chunky cable knit with a v-neck, which perfectly shows off the collar of my blouse. And finally, the icing on the cake, my gorgeous faux fur vest. (Pro tip: if you really want to get technical, I'm also wearing a cami underneath my chambray).

Is there any leopard print item that I don't love? No. The answer is no. And it just so happens that this lovely piece is just as functional as it is fabulous. I love wearing this vest because it truly does pack in serious heat -- all my faux fur items do! But it does so in a polished, stylish way. With warm pieces like this, who needs pants!

So Much Chill // wool hoodie + velvet heels

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper wearing a winter, cold-weather outfit
Instead of entering 2018 with a bang, I'm taking my time; strolling into the new year with comfort and warmth at the forefront of my mind. These past few weeks have been exceptionally cold, so I have no problem playing it casual and reverting to a stylish hoodie and stretchy jeans in below-freezing temps.

Lucky for me, this sweater is crazy warm! It's mostly wool, which is key to locking in heat. Stylish hoodies are totally having a moment too, and I love how this one is longer so it can easily be worn with jeans OR leggings. And those bell sleeves? SO on trend.

To dress up my simple sweater and jeans, I chose to throw on red-hued accessories -- including elegant velvet heels in burgundy. To compliment them, I chose fun statement earrings, also in red. My complimentary lip color is just the icing on the cake. And finally, using a clutch you'd normally save for a special occasion also helps adds glamour to my casual look.

I went back home to Chicago-area for the holidays, and let me tell you, "so much chill" is a major understatement. Every day I was there, the temperature was significantly below zero with windchill! Needless to say, these photos just BARELY got taken. Can you tell my hands are freezing off? Big shoutout to my dad for being such a trooper taking these pics!

While it's definitely warmer here in NYC, it's still freeeezing - and winter has only just begun. Here's to staying warm these next few months!
