Effortless and comfy, a sporty midi dress is the summer wardrobe staple you didn't know you needed — that is, until now ;)

The knee-high slits in this particular dress are super flattering, as are the slimming side stripes. I also love that it's an easy one-and-done option; something you can quickly throw on and head out the door in. And finally, pairing this dress with sneakers, makes it a whole lewk — one that's sporty, cool, and ready-for-anything.

To give this look a fun, summery vibe, I chose bright and bold resin hoop earrings and a colorful, tropical keychain. While resin hoops are very much trend-forward, they're also super lightweight, which I personally love. Bonus — this exact pair is available in a bunch of different colors!

Big news: Antonio and I are ENGAGED! If you follow me on Instagram, you already know, but he popped the question on May 25th — our 8-year anniversary. The whole proposal, which I'll do a separate post on, was so sweet and romantic; it was absolutely perfect!

He proposed in a gorgeous garden in NYC at 9 am, and by 10 am we were headed to Washington D.C. for a long weekend where we proceeded to celebrate, sightsee, and eat amazing food. The past few days have been an absolute magical whirlwind, and in the midst of all the excitement, we managed to snap these pics while in D.C. This outfit was perfect for an entire day of walking and museum-viewing ðŸ‘Œ.

Mix it Up // Dotted Ruffle Top + Stripes & Floral

Wednesday, May 22, 2019

Spring street style by Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper of Kat's Fashion Fix.
What do you get when you mix polka dots, floral, and stripes? A playful spring look that's fresh and fun with a dash of daring. While patten mixing can be intimidating, when done right, it's beyond rewarding. Why? Because the result is an uber stylish look that warrants major fashion cred.

Pulling off multiple prints at once comes down to:
1. Choosing one print to dominate and one (or two) as an accent.
2. Mixing prints of different scales.
3. Keeping your fabrics in the same color family.
4. Keeping the rest of your outfit neutral.
5. Remembering stripes can almost always be treated as a neutral ;)

I've never been one to aggressively pattern mix, which is why I love this particular look so much. It's subtle but intentional, and 100 percent memorable. The navy polka dots on this top complement the navy stripes on my headband, and my dark floral clutch gives the whole outfit a refreshing burst of color.

And don't even get me started on these glorious face-framing earrings; they're obviously not printed, but they do play up the whole Hamptons vibe. ...They're also SUPER lightweight 👌.

With temps in the 80s now, it almost feels like we went from winter straight to summer with barely any spring in between. And while I love summertime, I am not ready for 1. the humidity, and 2. sweating my makeup off by noon — eek!

Regardless, I love the above look for that (supposed to be) mild time when it's warm and sunny but not yet HOT. Ideal for Memorial Day specifically, this outfit is stylish, playful, and bold in a fun and polished way. Antonio and I will be in Washington DC for MDW and we are pumped for the change of scenery!

Easy Versatility // LBD + Sneakers

Wednesday, May 15, 2019

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper showing how to style a black dress.
The powers of a little black dress are undeniable. Arguably the most important dress a woman can own, it’s the one piece you can wear any time, any place and feel perfectly on-trend and perfectly in place. Not sure what to wear for that first date? Can’t seem to find a suitable wedding guest dress? An LBD won’t disappoint!

Every so often I like to touch on the little black dress’ fail-proof versatility, and this time I decided to illustrate just that with a sporty, casual look that works surprisingly well for the office, date night, or an afternoon out and about.

The secret to mastering LBD styling, is in the accessories, and for this look I went with up-for-anything sneakers, a chic statement purse, and a fun leopard cardigan that adds an unexpected flair.

I dressed this look down significantly with my footwear choice and the fact that I tied a sweater around my waist. But that’s the glory of an LBD — it takes on whatever form you want it to, and it looks great with EVERYTHING. Consider it your closet chameleon and start stocking up now — if you haven’t already ;)

This past weekend I wore this look out to brunch with a friend — we tried Coco & Cru, which I'll be recommending to all my fellow New Yorkers — wandering the city with Antonio, and later, date night at a trendy rooftop (Versa) for dinner and a cocktail. It was an absolutely gorgeous day consisting of temps in the mid 60s and tons of sunshine!

An LBD look like this one is a go-to for multifaceted days when I want to look put-together. I love how easy, polished, and completely timeless a black dress is — it’s the true fashion girl’s uniform.

Cardi Season // Silk Maxi Skirt + Grandpa Cardigan

Wednesday, May 8, 2019

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper's spring 2019 cherry blossom pics
Oversized cardis, or "Grandpa" cardigans, as they're adorably referred to nowadays, have made a surprising comeback in 2019. I used to think of cardigans as an "old lady" item, but I have since seen the light, realizing how stylish, effortless — and dare I say chic — cardigans can truly be.

Cardigans may be a winter staple, but I'm making mine work all the way through spring with a few refreshing tweaks. First, I ditched my shirt — who needs 'em once May rolls around anyways? I then only buttoned this deep v-neck cardi in the middle, leaving the bottom loose and free to flash some skin now and then. I also bunched the sleeves a little bit to add some lived-in flair.

To balance out my baggy sweater, I slipped into a curve-hugging, silky maxi skirt. It served as the perfect feminine companion to my grandfatherly top. Finally, stark white chunky, athletic sneakers completed my look in a comfy-cool way. Just call this my go-to outfit formula for spring ðŸ‘Œ

These photos were snapped during a recent trip Antonio and I took to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It was my first time there and I had gotten us tickets for their annual cherry blossom festival. Although it was super crowded, it was really cool too see so much pink in one place.

I absolutely love cherry blossom season and every year I try to incorporate as many pink trees as I can into some shots. They never disappoint as a beautiful, whimsical backdrop!

Lovely in Lavender // Pant + Top Set

Thursday, May 2, 2019

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper wearing a lavender pastel outfit
I can't think of a more appropriate way to usher in May than in an outfit that personifies spring. Playful, polished, and oh-so sweet, this look is guaranteed to put a pep in your step any day.

Saturating myself in pastels had me feeling like freshly spun cotton candy. I've got your mint earrings, baby blue nails, lavender two-piece, and multicolored croc-effect heels. It all seems like A LOT, but grounded in primarily monochrome, with a neutral splash in the form of a white clutch, this look is surprisingly wearable.

Effortless and lightweight, this lavender set was comfortable enough for me to walk nearly 20,000 steps in (aka over 8 miles). But yes, while the color is stunning, and certainly attention-grabbing, I think the unsung hero of this ensemble is my bag. It helps add depth to any look, and I can't wait for this baby to accompany me on many summer adventures.

This was actually my Easter look this year. I was dreaming of something on-trend, quintessentially spring, and comfortable. I loved the idea of a matching set, and throwing these summer-ready accessories into the mix completely won me over.

ORIGINALLY originally, I planned on wearing this ensemble in Paris last month, but as my trip approached, I realized it'd be too cold. And now, with the release of Taylor Swift's "ME," I feel like this outfit's timing couldn't be more perfect. It's safe to say pastels are having a moment, and I'll just be over here taking full advantage, thank you!
