Delicate Details // black lace jacket + white button-down

For all my non-fashionistas out there: I get it. You think white button-downs are boring, overused, and -- dare I say -- stuffy! But the truth is, that couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. Sure, your mom wore them back in the day AND still does, but that doesn't make them "old-fashioned." In fact, it makes them a classic. Here's how to upgrade this no-fail staple for 2017.

While I love wearing my white button-downs solo, you can never go wrong with layering. A lace mesh fusion jacket is effortlessly modern and oh-so gorgeous. I snagged this unique zip-up from an Elie Tahari sample sale in the fall, and I have been in love with it ever since. Pairing it with such a timeless top juxtaposes its delicate edginess and creates a truly eye-popping combo.

I'm here to tell you that button-downs (or is it button-ups...?) don't have to be worn with dress pants. In fact, some would argue they look BETTER when paired with denim or more casual bottoms like leather leggings. To urbanize my ensemble, I chose to wear my go-to pair of dark-wash skinny jeans. And guess what? I can STILL wear this outfit to work or to cocktail hour. Mission = accomplished.

Here is the portion of this blog post where I discuss the amazingness that is the white blouse. I can't stress enough how essential this baby is; they're not just for bankers, I repeat, they're not just for bankers! Worn tucked in, tucked out, over, under, buttoned, unbuttoned, oversized, cropped, etc., this piece is one must-have top that will never let you down. So don't be scared to wear it - it's all in the styling!

Putting a positive spin on "winter blues," I wore my cobalt pointed-toe loafers as a way to inject some major coolness into my look. These Tibi shoes may be too pointy for some people's liking (cough cough, Dad, cough), but I happen to think they're the bee's knees. Even better, they're beyond comfy!

Classic piece: check, edgy factor: check, pop of color: check. This Rebecca Minkoff bag allowed me to check off my "bold print" checkbox, thus giving me a well-balanced ensemble. Let's not forget it only increases the street credibility of my buttoned up blouse too.

Chic sunnies are a must - even in the depths of winter. These make me feel super polished and pulled together. Can you say movie-star status?

Alexis Bittar is one of my very favorite jewelry designers and I am absolutely in love with these earrings of his. Their translucent purple color is pure magic and I love how the tips are dipped in silver.

Did anyone notice my hair makeover? I got balayage highlights for the first time eva! TBH though, they're not EXACTLY how I pictured they'd turn out (I'm aiming for a more all-over blonde look) so I kind of want to go back and get more done. Does anyone have recommendations for me? Are foil highlights best, or should I stick with balayage? Enlighten me in the comments section below!

Have I convinced you yet that white button-downs are Queen? If not, no worries. Maybe these lovely ladies can help persuade you...
See how she wears hers with dark skinnies, red lipstick, and nude sandals? Genius, right? This beauty styled hers with denim and loafers - LOVE! And paired with boyfriend jeans? Brilliant!

I don't repeat outfits super often in the same season, but when I do, it's because I REALLY love it! And yep, this particular look has seen the light of day multiple times in the past few months. It's something I feel confident in but also sexy and put-together. I challenge you to style a white button-down in a way that makes YOU feel that way! Yes, I just gave you homework ;)

New York Is The Thing // slogan T + leopard

It's mid January and the struggle is REAL! The winer style rut has creeped up on you, leaving you uninspired, a tad desperate, and just very very cold. Have no fear, I've been there and have lived to tell the tale! Prepare to find your creativity again with a few of these killer styling tips.

It starts with a coat. If you find yourself turning to the same old black puffer jacket every day for four months straight, yeah, you're going to get bored. Learn to embrace - and love - your last layer and treat it as an equal. Especially on days when you don't take your coat off, it's JUST as important as what's underneath, if not more. I for one am obsessed with leopard - it always make me feel super chic.

Slogan/graphic Ts are such a fun way to add major punch to your winter wardrobe. Feeling sassy? Let your T-shirt do all the talking. They also provide a nice switch-up to the completely exhausted sweater. And while a T may not be as warm as a thick knit, you can always layer a nude cami underneath to keep out the chill.

Let me guess, skinny jeans and leggings are your ride-or-die pant right now, am I right? While I'm a huuuuge fan of denim and spandex, sometimes you need to snap out of your addiction and breathe some new life into your style. Enter: elastic waistband trousers; they're genius! As comfortable as a sweatpant but infinitely more fashionable, these pants are office-approved and provide a much-needed splash of color in a sea of winter neutrals.

Fact: hats help keep you warm. They also can TOTALLY make your outfit - talk about killing two birds with one stone! The oversized knit variety is trending this season, and the pom pom on top is just too cute not to rock.

Ok, so these may not be the warmest shoes on the block, but they ARE waterproof, which makes them totally tolerable in the snow and slush. Oxfords are sophisticated, polished, and provide a very different vibe than any pair of boots could ever give you. The fact that they're metallic is a bonus ;)

Purses are another great way to spice up your cold-weather favorites. Instead of turning to the same ol' bag day in and day out, keep yourself on your toes by switching carriers every so often. While I'm sporting a gray style here, I get plenty of use out of my canary yellow bag in the wintertime too!

I find myself putting a little more effort into my beauty routine in the cold-weather months. Why? Probably because I don't have to worry about humidity and sweat ruining my look LOL. But in all seriousness, for some reason, when it's chilly outside, it seems like you have more of an excuse to go all out when it comes to rocking a statement lip, a bold eye, or BOTH! Go ahead and be as dark and as moody as your teenage self would have wanted.

In the winter, it's all about finding functional & practical pieces to wear that are ALSO stylish and exciting. It's like this: if you have to wear a coat every day anyways, you might as well make it fun and cute! Same goes for your hat, boots, etc. Inject personality into your everyday looks through colors, prints, and textures. THAT'S the key to making winter fashion look effortless.

A Shorts Story // blazer + shorts & tights

Tuesday, January 10, 2017

winter outfits pics
It's time to give your skirts a break and opt for something a little fresher for winter. Shorts are an unexpected choice this time of year, making them ideal when you find yourself stuck in a style rut. Just add tights and a blazer for a streamlined, work-approved look!

Drapey shorts - or as I like to call them, dressy shorts - are way more polished than your everyday summer short. These babies are flattering, versatile, and timeless, making them my go-to style for ANY time of year. Even better, this pair is high-waisted, which makes styling them a cinch! Adding opaque tights is my secret weapon when the temps drop.

A sleek blazer never fails to upgrade any outfit. While any black blazer will do, this style is my personal favorite as it's a tad slouchy, has no buttons, and has some extra length. And voila - paired with black shorts you instantly have a makeshift shorts suit, how easy is THAT?

To break up all this black, I chose a top in a nude hue for a neutral pop of color. This cropped shell perfectly compliments my high-waisted shorts too, which made it a no-brainer.

Taking your typical black bootie up a notch, this pair has fringe, which is a fun sassy detail to an otherwise simple pair of shoes. I also love the silver studs ;)

Echoing the studs on my booties, this black leather clutch adds some extra pizazz to a mostly-all-black ensemble. Even better, it's roomy enough to fit all of my essentials and then some.

A bit exotic, a bit bold, this unique necklace never fails to elevate the simplest of looks. I love how it incorporates black in the chain, which makes it an ideal accessory for most dark-hued pieces.

I couldn't resist matching my earrings with my necklace. This tiny bar stud seriously looks so chic with everything - it can even be worn horizontal!

When your typical winter uniform of sweater + pants induces a yawn, you know it's time for a wardrobe switch-up. Throwing chic shorts into the mix is a super simple fix. Not only can winter shorts be styled in multiple ways, but they're also comfortable and unexpected - giving you major style cred.

Keeping my makeup neutral and subtle for a fresh-faced daytime look, I dusted my lids with bronze shimmer shadow, extended the wing of my eyeliner a tad, and painted my lips with whipped liquid lipstick from Buxom - bonus: the gloss actually feels like velvet!

That's my little sister Sarah in the last pic! My dad took these photos for me while I was home for Christmas, and we had a blast running around town snapping pics. There seriously is no place like home.

I wore this look to a work event in NYC where I had the opportunity to attend a Pentatonix Q&A panel and view the group's Christmas special WITH the actual members. I felt confident and comfortable in this ensemble, which is really all you can ask for!
