Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper's fall outfit ideas
I'm not going to lie - rocking an all-denim look (or Canadian tuxedo, if you will) is a bold move. I've also found it's a bit controversial! What I mean is, people have VERY different opinions about head-to-toe denim, with some thinking it should be completely avoided. I have to admit, this was the first outfit I've ever posted on my blog that I was actually nervous about wearing. But you know what? I think I pulled it off. Here's why...

You don't have to be gutsy to pull off wearing multiple denim pieces at once. I've found that it really comes down to your accessories and how you construct the outfit as a whole. Pay attention to shades of denim - each piece should either match to a tee, or be vastly different. While I'll admit that I didn't quite master that technique, my fashion-forward accessories help to distract from the oversight.

I didn't just whip out my sparkly booties, bright yellow clutch, statement sunglasses, and look-at-me lip for nothing. These bold accessories help modernize the jean-on-jean effect while giving my ensemble authority and street style cred. A fun belt, chic hat, or unique necklace would have a similar impact. The key? Make your outfit MORE than just denim-on-denim-on-denim.

Collecting buttons for my vintage-wash jean jacket is something I've been having fun with lately. The added embellishments help break up all this denim - same with the stripe down my boyfriend jeans

So! What do you think? I want to hear YOUR thoughts on all-denim looks. Love, loathe? Yay, nay? Let me know if this is a trend better left to the Canadians ;)

Black Magic // LBD + metallic booties + beret

Fashion blogger Kathleen Harper showing off fall street style in NYC
There's something so chic and ladylike about a little black dress. Make it a little black SHIRTDRESS, and you've got an effortless look that requires almost zero styling! Here, I'm wearing a classic shirtdress with a twist, making my electric accessories really pop.

I love how this dress is a bit longer in the back with long vertical pleats - this gives the entire piece major movement and ensures it stands out from your run-of-the-mill LBD. A romantic red lip and matching bag elevate the look even more.

Silver booties may seem daring, but they're actually surprisingly versatile. I love wearing mine with jeans and a black top, but they also look quite striking when worn with a dress.

Feeling Rosy // pink sleeveless coat + joggers

Nyc fashion blogger Kathleen Harper's fall outfit ideas
What's (literally AND figuratively) cooler than a millennial pink trench coat? A SLEEVELESS millennial pink trench coat! Coats sans sleeves are having a major moment right now, and, lucky for us, they were MADE for autumn weather!

I find a lot of people love joggers - I mean, they ARE basically just pajama pants - but people aren't too sure how to style them in a way that doesn't look, well, like pajamas! This is an elevated joggers look that's super easy to copy. Tuck a tee (could be a plain v-neck, a graphic tee, etc.) into them, add a fun belt (depending on the look, solid brown or black may come off as too serious), and add a pair of laid-back heels (again, depending on the look, traditional pumps may look too stuffy). Extra points for tossing on a killer piece of outerwear!

If you thought florals were strictly for spring, think again! Moody flower prints, like the one covering my clutch, are super fresh for fall.

In case you were wondering, my shirt says "Ciao." After taking these pictures, I realized it looks like I'm just wearing a big fat "A" on my shirt, like in The Scarlet Letter - oops!

Is it just me, or does it feel like this has been the longest summer EVER? Luckily it seems like the weather is finally getting the memo that it's now October. Hopefully the leaves will start changing soon and we can finally break out our outerwear for good.

Thanks so much for reading!

Jumping Into Fall // jumpsuit + boyfriend blazer

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

NYC fashion blogger Kathleen Harper wearing a Banana Republic jumpsuit
It's jumpsuit season! Easier than a top-and-pant combo, more comfortable than a dress, and chicer than yoga pants, the jumpsuit is the solution to your autumn wardrobe woes. This is my favorite way to style the versatile piece...

An oversized blazer is a must-have for any fashion lover. Now that fall has arrived, I'll be reaching for mine more than ever. It's the perfect top layer to throw over ANYTHING when you want to look polished yet effortless. Paired with a jumpsuit, you're set from the boardroom to cocktail hour.

Mules/slides seem to be the "it" shoe of 2017. While there are infinite styles out there, I personally love the pointed-toe variety. When your feet just can't take another day in heels, an elegant pair of slides is the perfect substitute. I promise, you won't even miss the height! Heels? What heels?

I know some people tend to shy away from jumpsuits because they're not sure how to style them. They also don't want to look like they're wearing a unitard, which is totally understandable! I find that tossing some kind of layer over a one-piece does wonders.

From a blazer to a jean jacket, to a leather jacket or cardigan, a topper will pull your whole look together. Adding a belt to the ensemble can also be a game-changer. Once you start living that jumpsuit life, you'll never want to go back!
