Shopping Trip

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

I recently spent a whole day at the mall with my mom and 14-year old sister, and as always, it was a fantastic day! Others laugh when I say this, but us fashion lovers know that shopping is hard work and at the end of the day you're worn out and your feet are screaming at you. But it's always worth it when you get home and unload your purchases. The following are a few snapshots from my day! Enjoy!

Had to take a picture with this coffee table book!

These are the adorable suede booties I found in Macys and couldn't resist buying! Perfect for fall.

Another purchase of mine- BCBGeneration bracelet that I got on sale! Love at first sight.

I've discovered that the shoe department has fantastic lighting!

My own Sperry Topsiders- the colors remind me of summer!

Simple black and white outfit with pops of color through accessories. There's just something about a solid colored v-neck that I can't get enough of.

My little sister Sarah! Such a great shopping companion because I can always count on her to tell the truth about how everything looks on me.

[dress: Twist boutique, belt: Ann Taylor, necklace: Talbots, earrings: Betsey Johnson, watch: Guess, heels: Gazith ]

This outfit reminds me of an updated version of something June Cleaver might wear. A very updated version! Instead of classic white pearls I'm wearing modern sterling silver "pearls," which give the whole look an edgy yet timeless feel. Instead of opting for a plain black belt, I wanted something that made more of a statement so I chose blue (a taboo for some when paired with black). To make the blue belt make sense, I added blue heels into the mix. And these stud earrings by Betsey Johnson are one of my favorites! They're just unusual enough, and I love how they're much more unique than typical diamond studs. Looks like June Cleaver just got a makeover

Denim Dressed Up

[top: J.Crew, skirt: Free People, shoes: American Eagle, necklace: Ann Taylor, earrings: Nordstrom]

It's hard to find a perfect jean skirt, but this one from Free People comes pretty darn close. Jean skirts have a tendency of being way too short and riding up as you walk, but not this one! A lot of jean skirts also gap at the waistline, leaving your shirt bumpy at the bottom, but you guessed it, not this one! This fabulous skirt is a perfect dark shade of denim, the slight fringe at the bottom adds just enough of a unique element without getting crazy, and there's even seams running down the skirt to give it that extra special flattering touch of sophistication. It can be a challenge to dress up denim skirts, but working with this one is very easy thanks to those little touches that truly make it stand out as one-of-a-kind

Here's a collection of just some of the current fashion trends I'm loving! I think these pieces are gorgeous and can be worn a lot of different ways. Feel free to donate to the Kathleen's Closet Fund :) ENJOY!

Zara
Lace is totally in right now and I love Zara's unique rendition with the added fringe pieces!

Zara
Perfect for fall and this color is so rad!

Higher in the front, longer in the back hemline = love! What a great way to show off those legs

Reminds me of a painting! Putting this on would make any day brighter
Polkadots and pink- two of my favorites! And this sweater looks extra cozy.

Always on the hunt for fabulous iPhone cases and this one definitely makes the cut! Fierce!

Great color, great heel, great height. Plus, who can say no to leather?!

I can totally see myself wearing this in the fall with ankle boots and a cool jacket

I've had my eye on this online exclusive for a while. What can I say, pink is my weakness.

Bright Lines

[dress: Ann Taylor, belt: Ann Taylor, sandals: boutique, headband: Forever 21, earrings: Betsey Johnson, yellow bracelet: Ann Taylor]

I am a huge fan of color, and lately, especially with this season's selections, I've had a very easy time expressing my love for color and brightness through my fashion. This summer has been all about color and pairing hues together that people wouldn't normally put with each other, and that's half the fun; creating surprising color combinations! The "burst" of color or color "pop" is a common method of showcasing a certain color, and that's exactly what I did here with the yellow over purple. The belt, thick bracelet, and even a strap on the sandals are all the same shade of yellow so the whole ensemble ties together beautifully. These sandals are the perfect addition to this outfit and they're so unique and totally on-trend with this season. Gotta love bright lines! ...a tip for those hot sticky days: wear a thick headband (as I'm doing above), pushing your bangs and fly-aways out of your face and keeping your hair sweat-free and you cooler; chic and practical
