Sweater Better :: layered red sweater

A sweater is the obvious choice for freezing January temps, but to add extra oomph to a simple sweater, layer a blouse underneath. The result? Extra warmth and extra polish. 
A crystal and lucite statement necklace stands out against a bold color like red. This whimsical piece gives a traditional sweater/blouse combo an extra dose of sparkle and style.  
This is my only pair of OTK (over-the-knee) boots and lately I've been wearing them into the ground. I used to think that short people like me (I'm 5'1") couldn't pull off this coveted look, but I've since realized that it's all about how you wear them. Pairing this black pair with black jeans actually elongates my legs! 
A simple silver and crystal bangle is just enough, especially when worn with such a spotlight-stealing necklace. 
These teardrop studs are a modern alternative to just a simple crystal.

These photos were taken just before the snow storm hit my area. It's been negative 17 degrees with the windchill here in Chicago! My younger sister hasn't even had school for the past two days because it's been deemed too dangerous to leave the house. Luckily I got to take these photos before things got too bad! 

Wishing everyone a cozy and warm weekend - I'll definitely be taking advantage of this layering technique ;)

    UGH I'm also glad I have a few posts already lined up. It's too cold to be outside in a down jacket for a couple of minutes, let alone take photos in a few layers. Hopefully it warms up soon.

    I love the layering, it adds so much to the look. The red is a lovely deep shade and the jumper looks very cosy. It's interesting seeing what little aspects of life are like in other locations around the world, it's the hottest time of the year here in January!

    I've always seen people layer sweaters over their blouse but I've never gotten around to do it; it looks chic with your outfit!
