Go Long :: maxi + leather

Sunday, March 1, 2015

The maxi skirt - the perfect marriage of casual edge and stylish ease. This staple piece gets updated with a side slit and comes in merlot, the color of the moment. With its modest length and flattering shape, maxi is the new mini.
A casual layer in the form of leather keeps this look from appearing too stuffy. Shed the jacket once springtime hits. For warmer weather a simple shell serves as the perfect top - the black piping on this one adds interest and looks great with a printed headband.
This 16 inch initial necklace from Tiffany & Co. is one of my go-to pieces when I don't want to overpower an outfit with a statement necklace. I'm all about statement jewelry but minimal pieces give any outfit an effortless vibe.
Between the slit and the color, this skirt is one of my favorite pieces for fall and spring.
A tribal-print headband in black and white is versatile while adding a boho feel. With bohemian chic styles trending this season, a printed accessory is a
risk-free way to introduce a splash of this trend into your look.
I decided to give my maxi an unexpected twist by adding texture and pattern. The easiest way to do this is through layers and accessories.

As of late all I've wanted to wear are jeans, which is strange because usually I opt for dresses over anything else. But with irregular weather and the threat of snow every few days, I just don't feel like throwing on a dress and freezing my legs off. But what I can do is find a happy medium with a maxi skirt.

I wore this outfit last weekend when it was in the 50s, but of course now the ground is covered in snow and it's in the 30s - what can ya do? But nonetheless, a maxi skirt is a great comprise for those not-too-cold, cold days when we're stuck between winner and spring. All you have to remember is go long - save those minis for summer!
