I'm a huge advocate for summer and summer fashion (hello skirts, sundresses, and sandals all day every day)! But I have to say, it is definitely going to feel refreshing to rid ourselves of some of this pesky heat. I've started to prepare for fall by purchasing a few more sweaters (the chunkier the better), investing in a pair of flare jeans (who knew they'd actually come back in style?), and slowly introducing some colder-weather items into my everyday rotation - starting with this simple long-sleeved white tee. Pair a similar one with your favorite summer skirt and you've instantly made yourself that much more autumn ready!
I bought this skirt in the spring, and while some may think it's not a versatile piece, I challenged myself to create multiple looks with it for all seasons. So far I've photographed three of those looks (including this one). Checkout my spring and summer creations featuring this unique skirt here and here.
You can easily keep your summer skirts around for a little bit longer by pairing them with a sweater or a long-sleeved top. I love the silhouette of this skirt and how its neutral color palette works well into the fall season. Since it's form fitting, it would look equally as stylish with an oversized white sweater...but let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's still 80 degrees here in New York :).
Playing off my skirt's tribal vibe, I chose these safari-inspired rose gold chains to spice up my basic tee.
Not only do my nude wedges make my legs appear longer (one of my favorite styling tricks), but they're the perfect footwear of choice for this light-hued look. Although it's hard to go wrong with a pair of black shoes, for a transitional outfit like this, nude sets the tone and brightens up the look in all the right ways.
Navy and orange are complimentary colors so I thought it would be fun to incorporate a little tangerine into the mix. Adding color through jewelry and/or accessories is super easy yet has an impactful and polished result.
My rose gold watch matches my necklace chains perfectly.

There's no doubt that fall is on its way! Although its fun (not to mention tempting) to get caught up in the amazing new styles that make up fall fashion, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg - or anything at all for that matter - to indulge in the season while staying on trend. All the pieces I'm wearing here were purchased in past seasons (some even years ago), but I make them work for now and you can too. Just keep these tips in mind:
1. A simple tee in black, white, or navy will never go out of style.
2. The summer/spring skirts you love can still work for autumn if you ground them with a neutral sweater or tee - think creams, grays, or shades of brown.
3. Although not pictured in this post, a black bootie transforms any outfit into a fall one. I like to invest in a new pair every year.
Whether you update your closet or not, fall is THE season for fashion. Stay tuned for some exciting new fall looks!
